Re: What Are You Reading?

The Kushiel books are surprisingly good for what is effectively fantasy bdsm smut. I liked the second trilogy better as well, probably because the main character of the first trilogy was essentially a superhero.

Re: What Are You Reading?

In the last few months, I finished Cloud Atlas , which thankfully ends much better than it starts. Still didn't love it, but much less bad than I had feared. More recently, I just finished reading A Stranger in Olondria , a very solid fantasy novel about a character who travels from their homeland t...

Re: What are you playing: May/June 2022

Did a bit of board gaming this weekend. We played Fox in the Forest, which is a clever 2-player trick taking game where both players have cards that can do things like shift the trump suit or replace cards in their hand with cards from the deck. We also played Gaia Project, which is sort of the succ...

What are you playing: May/June 2022

What's on your table/screen these days? RPGs: I'm playing a Dragonborn Paladin in a weekly 5e campaign and DMing a weekly PF2 campaign. We use Fantasy Grounds as a VTT for both games. It's been an interesting opportunity to compare the two systems. Although I prefer the simplicity of 5e, there's a l...

Re: What Are You Reading?

I'm halfway through Cloud Atlas, and I can't understand what anyone saw in this book.

Re: So, what's new?

I recently returned from a vacation in France, which was amazing. My daughter and I visited as many historical sites as we could, including Omaha Beach, Mont St. Michel, several of the royal chateaus, and the Louvre. It was a fantastic trip for a history buff, and I highly recommend it! Check out my...

Re: What Are You Reading?

Just finished Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Great read. Without giving too much away, the book has two main storylines, which meet a few times: one, a crew of humans on a colony ship who travel for hundreds of years at a time in stasis pods, and the second, a race of uplifted spiders accid...

Re: What Are You Reading?

I didn't finish, it went back to the library. This book is hard to read. I believe intentionally so. The story meanders all over the place, and it's mostly told through conversations, with little description to help you place the characters in the scenes. It's also incredibly sexually graphic, but n...

Re: What Are You Reading?

I have started reading Black Leopard Red Wolf for the second time. The first time, I quit before finishing. Why is this book such a struggle?

Re: What are you playing: March/April 2022

My daughter is playing Elden Ring right now and she's loving it. I'm waiting for the price to drop a bit before I pick it up, although more than likely I'll just end up getting it whenever my friends all start jumping on board. It's hard to imagine that the story is as good as RDR2's, but GRRM was i...
